Summer Blogging!

For the summer blogging I have chosen the United kingdom as my country that I will be following for the next few weeks! One thing I like about this country is that their national icons are the Barbary Lion, The rose, the Oask tree, the queen and a cup of tea!

This is an awesome country and their population  size is 53,1 million.

Why Its Good To Learn Maths In School!

This is a movie John, Zahn and I have made! We made it using I Movie. It is about two friends, (ME AND ZAHN!) Zahn is the brainy friend and I am the not so brainy friend. The brainy friend knows his maths and I have to keep looking at his. But one day he thought it was enough and he demanded me to learn my maths! But I didn't know how? So he got all of his things ready.

You'll have to watch the movie to find out if he learns his maths!

Student Leader Nomination.

Latham

I believe I would be the best choice for the 2016 Manaiakalani Leader. As a part of becoming a leader, I am a confident speaker and I help others with their learning! I can take on any challenge that will help me become a school leader, and be the best I can at it. My passion is making films and videos, so I use a computer a lot, in and out of school! To be a Manaiakalani Leader you need to know how to use computers and that is something I am very good at! I dress smart in my uniform and style my hair and would make our school look very smart. I know I can take on a leadership role, and I can/will do everything I can to become one and do our school proud.

I have been nominated for Manaiakalani Leader for 2016! I have written this paragraph to persuade people to vote for me. I have listed the Leader quality's that I have that people can look at. I am proud of my self and I am prepared for this. I think I have a clear chance and hope to be elected!

What is problem solving in maths? Does it only happen in maths.

Today we had to write a quick write of what we know about problem solving and if it only happens in maths? This is my quick write!

Problem solving is developing maths knowledge! It is not just used in maths for example (Buying things at the shop, Finding how much you get payed in pocket money and much more!)
Problem solving can be figuring out the answer, working with bigger numbers and using different strategies! Problem solving helps you work out solutions in maths.
But when you're using problem solving outside of maths it could help with a lot of things. I think it’s not just used in maths but it's used outside of it too!

Today we found out the results of the flag our school is now voting for! The flags all got our votes and her are the results. The Black and White Koru got 10 votes, the Red Peak got 25 votes, the Black and White Fern got 50 votes and the Red and Blue flag got 87 votes which is the one I voted for!

Choosing A New Flag!

Today we had to choose what flag we wanted to become the new flag of NZ! First we had to look at the flags for 4 minutes and then we had to find a partner and discuss what flag we wanted. Then we found another buddy and talked to them about what we think, and for 2 minutes we got into groups and talked about our choices! In my group was John, Manu, Zahn, Dontalian, Jacob and me! We all chose the second flag which is the Silver Fern (red, white and blue) because we thought it looked similar to our old flag and we don't want to change it! We also see it as as a flag that people can look at and go "That's the New Zealand flag!"
That's the flag we think New Zealand could have!

Letter To Term 1 Me!

LI: To reflect on personal goals set in term 1.

Dear Term 1 Latham,

Didn’t I do well this year! I have gained confidence and I have limited my time in the sick bay! I have participated in sports like soccer, hockey, cricket and much more. This year we have been doing lots of great things we even started  by getting these badges called CARE awards. Head leader nominations are coming up and i’m really excited to see how that goes. Hopefully I get nominated for head boy! I have gotten certificates in assembly, and prize giving is coming up which is exciting! Maybe i’ll get an award! I’ve improved a lot in maths, but i’m still working on my multiplication. I have had a crazy but awesome year and have achieved my goals! See you next year,

From Term 4 Latham

Aretha Franklin Respect.

Respect was a song written and released by american recording artist Otis Redding in 1965! It became a hit in 1967 and a signature song for Aretha Franklin. Aretha had changed some of the song and the chorus sings (RESPECT). That is what I found out!

Science!

Today at tamaki college we had our first science class! We started it off by introducing our self and then we learnt what science is! We had to look at a slide show and every new slide we have to talk to the people in our group of what we think it means! We learnt that gas comes from these taps and if they haven't been turned off and left on for the weekend, when we get back and they turn on the gas heaters the room will explode. I felt quite scared! We had a fun time and I can't wait for the next time!

Tech: Wood Work!

Today at tech I worked on making my joint! First I started with a long piece of wood, then I cut off a piece and that's what's going in the joint! To make a joint you get your wood and rule lines on the top, bottom and sides then you get a marking gauge and you make a line on the middle of your marked lines! Then you saw down to the line and chisel out the middle when you've done that you should be able to slide you piece of wood in!

Basket Ball!

Today we had basket ball training! Our coaches were Coach Mark and Coach Millie! First we started of with running then we did high knees. After that we had to pivot were you are on your side and you move around with your legs going over each other! After that we had to cup the ball were you hold the ball and you pass it through your legs. When everyone finished we had to dribble the ball remember to look forward! All the people in my team encouraged each other! After that we played some relays and even know my team didn't come first we all had fun!

Problem Solving

Halatoa ate twice as many pancakes as Sebastian at lunchtime. Sebastian had another 3 pancakes for afternoon tea. Altogther they ate 18 pancakes. How many pancakes did Halatoa eat?
6x2=12
12+6=18
The reason I got this is because it said that Halatoa ate twice as much pancakes than Sebastian. And it said Sebastian ate three so i’m sure Halatoa ate 6?

This is what I got for my problem solving!

SSW Story Swap Task.

I looked at the house, wanting to check it out. When I walked there the door opened, I walked inside quietly and asked "Hello is anyone here?" no one replied. I had a look around, the lights turned off and on while I walked closer to the bedroom. Footsteps ran past me, a light shined from a window I could see the door. As I get closer I had a feeling someone was watching me. The door shut and I felt like something was crawling up my leg. I got really scared I had a look at my legs in was just a spider. I would  hate for it to be something like a skeleton arm. I Tried to open the door it wouldn't let me I knew something Was blocking the door, As I turned around all the curtains were pushed both sides of the end. I heard Water running It was a tap. I asked myself that was pretty strange I tried and tried to open the door. It opened some how? I ran out of the room and bolted like the wind back home I said to my self I'm Never going there again!!!
Today We had to do a silent challenge for writing. It was a really cool our challenge was not to talk. There was also a small challenge well doing this we had to work with someone our teacher decide to cool this challenge SSW which means Sustain Silent Writing. One thing I learned today was to read out out our story so you can hear the mistake and fix it.

Tuesday 13 October 2015

Today For Run, Jump, Throw we did Shot put and Discus. For Shot Put you have to cover your fingers and your neck but keep the Shot Put of your palm. Keep your chin, knees and toes all in a row with your elbows high. For Discus grip shelf, it should fall out. Swing yours arms up holding the Discus and clap then bring your arms down and take your hand off. Point your opposite finger in the air and swing your arm round. When your arms meet it will look like a T then release the Discus when your arms are beside and watch it fly. It was very fun and we learnt a lot. Can't wait for the next session!

Still Life Paintings.

This is my painting I made of a still life sunflower! We got the idea from artist Vincent Van Gogh who cut off his ear and shot him self in the abdomen! But Before all of that he had a friend coming to stay and the room he stayed in was plain white so he painted a whole lot of sun flowers and put them on the walls to brighten up the room!

My Speech!

Hello teachers and students. I want to tell you about the causes and dangers of too much social media.

I think it's not good for kids to be on social media for a long time because it can cause poor mental health, the consequences are not being able to deal with stress. This Needs To Stop!  I think there should be a time limit for every kid on their phones, ipads, computers and other devices.

Do you or someone you know spend more time than they should on social media?

Too much social media can cause depression, internet addiction, anxiety and laziness. It even stops families having a conversation! Think when was the last time you talked as a family?

Did you know many kids aged 8 through to 18 nearly spend 4 hours on social media each day.  That’s 28 hours a week, 112 hours a month and 1344 hours a year. That works out to 56 days a year on social media! That’s 56 days they didn’t get active.

Also on the newspaper there was an article talking about kids having sleeping disorders. Which is being unable to sleep, because they spend too much time on social media!

I also found out that too much screen time can cause hallucination. If you don’t know what hallucination is, it causes problems with your vision and hearing voices no one's spoken.

To fix this you can get active and make sure you only spend about 40 minutes on social media.

I think parents can have a family lock on there home devices so the children can only go on there devices when there parents say so. If they make a lock that can prevent children from playing on their devices for too long there can be a password only the parents know.

That's why I think kids should spend more time playing outside instead of going on social media, because there are more things to do outside, then on a device!

Cross Country 2015

Today we had cross country, it was fun and hard. We got tired very easily! We started off it was the year 7 race. I lined up waiting to start "Smash!" went the wooden banger. We all ran to start with I was coming 3rd then we got to Mrs Benli who was marking where to go. Then we got to Mrs Prasad, then we got Mrs Millward. We then had to run back, I was then coming 5th. Then Manu stopped and I got in front but soon again he cut in front. When We got near the finish line Zahn came 1st, Gozan came 2nd and Thomas came 3rd. When me and Manu got to the finish line we tied until he took one step and he crossed it before me. When we crossed we both collapsed face forward on the grass, and we got up and walked back to our buddies and lay tired for a few minutes on the ground. It was awesome but tiring.

Today we had to comment on three blogs of students in our class. I commented on San Tat's, Manu's and Paige's blog!

Thursday 3 September 2015

Run, Jump, Throw

Today we had Run, Jump, Throw again. We did high jump and long jump, when your doing long jump you need to swing your arms, bend your knees, look up and land on two feet! When your doing high jump you need to slightly bend your knees, run from angle in a J shape, quick actions, leading arm and leg and jump from the side of lead leg. Andy had us also play stuck in the mud where you have to leap over the person who got tagged, kind of like leap frog and a game where you jump on on each of the circles in a line and your in 2 teams. When you get to the other opponent you play a game of paper, scissors, rock and when 1 person gets out they go to the back of their teams line and the next person goes up! This was a fun session we learnt heaps of things.

Today we had Run, Jump, Throw! With our Kiwi Sport teacher Andy. We learnt running skills like sprints and starts. When your sprinting stand tall, cheek to cheek with arm movements, light feet and high knees. We practiced hurdles, relays, skills and drills. When  your starting a sprint never look at the starter, also when your running don't look back at the other people because it slows you down! Mrs Anderson videoed us doing our running so we know what to improve on! We had fun and we can't wait for the next session!

Should Schools Provide Breakfast For New Zealand Children?

Should Schools Provide Breakfast For New Zealand Children?

What do you think?

First I thought NO about breakfast in schools until I found out that 55,000 New Zealand kids go to schools every day without breakfast! If a kid is not on a full tummy they don’t pay attention towards their teachers and their learning.

Kids need good nutrition in their diet, and they need to eat fruit and sandwiches. Not those one dollar lunch packets with no good nutrition at all!

Most kids come from poor, unhealthy and neglected homes and they only have a roof over their heads. We could pay at least 5 dollars each and that could give kids a full tummy!

Kids can go to school with a full tummy because their schools could now provide breakfast. If people donate money!

Rubbish Averages

This is my rubbish DLO! We had to find the averages of the rubbish. I found out that the total of the food scraps were 6, and the total for the containers was the same as the food scraps. The most was the packets with 25 and the glad wrap was the smallest with 4.

Direct Speech

“Hello John, should schools provide breakfast for children?” asked Latham.
“Yes, I think they should because lots of children go to school without breakfast in the morning don’t focus!” replied John.
“I agree, but the parents could also take the time to feed their children!” explained Latham.
“What if they don’t have the money to feed them?” asked John.
“That’s why schools should help with the kids that really need it!”  said Latham

“Your right.” said John

This is my Direct Speech using speech marks!

Breakfast In Schools

Me and john worked together to make this ifake text about breakfast in schools! We both agree with having breakfast in schools because a lot of kids come from poor and neglected homes!
